It's one of my fav movie cliches to ever exist and you'll get sick of me trying to draw it long before I will
Thrown together with some cheap repeating brushes blaaaah. I am trying to make my own "town generating" brush, 'cause I don't know how I'd even approach doing it by hand, house by house! Uhg

It's 20 minutes long, but it's well worth the watch. A man voices pretty much all my opinions on the school systems in a funny and smart way.
Just thought I'd pass this along since it felt curiously nice to glean something of use from youtube for a change!
It made me feel nice especially since the modern day artist can be so berated these days simply for trying to do what they want in life.
The days of Picasso and famous painters are over; no one sees big money in little drawings anymore, so often times people are discouraged to do things that don't make sense in an economical way.
People plan their lives more around making money than being happy, which is odd to me.
Parents want to encourage their kids to support themselves and succeed in life on their own, but I think it's even more important to encourage kids to figure out what makes them just happy.
Not every kid can be a musician, not every kid can be a painter, it's true. But the more opportunities we have for more kids to be these things, the more society will grow to WANT more art, simply because it will be so prominent in our society. The more society is raised to love and need art, the more jobs there will be involved in it!
Another thing that hinders the progress of a creative generation is the fact that most jobs come from necessity. They are needed. You NEED a plumber, you NEED an electrician. You don't NEED comic books or a new CD, those are luxuries. I would argue it differently, though, because I see certain luxuries (ESPECIALLY creative ones) as things that people do NEED.
Humans spend a lot of time growing cities and growing neighborhoods and growing humanity like a big machine. I think growing and improving our brains and imaginations is just as much a necessity as anything we need to keep living smoothly.
Technology can't change hearts and emotions, which is what humanity needs to achieve peace.
Art, music, just plain human expression certainly can change the world.
Maybe I've gone off topic, I dunno.
Thoughts?
Also lately I've been getting to bed earlier than my usual, and I've found I draw much less than I ever have because of it.
I usually like to draw into the wee hours of the night, how about you? |

yay the official US trailer.
I like Ponyo's voice so far! Fujimoto sounds a bit old, but whatever. TINA FEYYY.
I just hope the english translation does it justice! It was very charming when I watched it in japanese with choppy subtitles, and I hope it'll be even more charming in full linguistic clarity.
The trailer makes the movie seem like kind of a SAVE THE WORLD adventure kinda movie, but it isn't! I hope they steered clear of making it look that way.
It's a wonderfully weird and visually gorgeous film; I hope you all venture out to see it when it hits theaters this summer!
I don't want to talk about the Avatar trailer because I have no interest in seeing that trainwreck of a movie! Horrible horrible casting. |

OK I had a cool scifi dream last night
It seems cool to me because usually my dreams make NO SENSE and this one made all kindsa sense!
To me, anyway!
Ok
*IT IS THE FUTURE! A very futuristic world*
I think the girls name was Neri. She was backstage at this music studio place. There were musicians walking around and Neri was admiring them and doing paperwork. I don't know what her job was there, but she enjoyed it and everyone was preparing for a huge concert.
Neri was wearing a weird pink ruffly shirt, and she noticed that a co-worker was wearing the same shirt. They laugh about it.
It comes time to get to the theater/stadium/concert place, so everyone lines up to be identified and transported via tube to their proper destination points.
It was like a weird airport type of place but instead of planes, it was a tube system? I dunno, I just know that a huge corporation owned it and it was very tight and secure.
Neri got split up from her group to be sent in a less crowded tube. She waves goodbye to her co-workers and tells them she'll see them at the concert.
She gets scanned by a heavily armored robotic looking man, because it is protocol. He scans her eyes, her fingers, her ID card, and then helps her get placed in the tube.
I remember that riding in the tube in my dream was very fun, like going down a slide without touching the sides, and lots of blue lights passing by.
All of a sudden, Neri hits something blocking the tube! There is an explosion and Neri is killed.
On the other end of the tube, the blockage, a terrorist, slides out with his guns up.
He is wearing shiny yellow armor and yelling in a robotic language. The armored guards working for the transport place all corner the terrorist, but one of them gets shot by the gun and falls dead near the tube where Neri is dead inside.
Next Neri and the former guard are in a strange fuzzy place. Neri asks the man where they are, and he speaks very formally and tells her that their bodies and souls were scanned by scanners and their information was stored in the company's database or something like that.
They were basically in a weird computer generated purgatory.
He said the company does this so that if people die on the premises they can be brought back to life so the company can't get sued. It also helps for questioning suicide bombers.
He also said they should have been restored by now, and that something was wrong.
The guard, who had lived his whole life with emotion-controlling technology embedded in his head to make him the perfect guard, was now feeling real feelings because he was only a ghost and had no technology guiding his mind.
So, he still spoke very formally and intelligently, but now a little shyly and nervous too. Neri is very cute, you see! And it was like seeing a lady for the first time.
The guard knew the company's system inside and out, so their souls traveled through the system to the main control center to find out why their bodies hadn't been restored yet.
By tapping into surveillance camera feeds, they could see the owner of the tube-travel company, the highest boss, a fat FAT FAT pale white man with a hideous wig, spindly yellow teeth and robotic spider legs carrying him around. EUGH.
It's foggy to me why the boss man didn't want them restored at this point, but it was for very evil purposes. They watch him speak to the other guards telling them that it won't be necessary to restore them, and to just go about their business and cover up the terrorist attack.
Neri is very upset at this point! She wants to be alive again but she doesn't know what to do.
The guard knows how to hack the system to give it the command to restore their bodies, but he feels like he can't do it because
1. It goes against his own orders, which he has never been able to do because of his armors programming
and 2. because he was now emotionally freer as just a human ghost than he was as a controlled guard. He didn't want to go back to living that way.
He had never had the capacity to react to a person crying before, so he got all nervous and strange when Neri began to cry. Or at least project crying? I don't know why her ghost was crying, I think it's just the only way she knew how to express sadness in that state.
But anyway, the guard became very flustered and told her he would restore them.
She hugs him, which makes him even more flustered, but happy (maybe for the first time?)
This is where my dream gets foggier, but they definitely restore their bodies at this point, in like some weird room where they have all these blue lights and chemicals and strange liquids and whatnot.
I don't know what happens afterwards, but I like to think Neri found the guard and took him away from a life of being a brainwashed guard and got to show him how to be human and happy and all that good stuff.
WHOO. It seems like a lot of info for a dream, but as I was dreaming it it just kinda streamed along like a short movie.
The next part of my dream involved me trying on shoes, like a lot of my dreams do for some reason.
Moccasins or oxford loafers? It was so hard to choose which would be more appropriate for my life as a detective.

So today my mom moved our old piano into my computer room
I was like, mom, dude, this isn't gonna work for me and she was like
shut up
So they moved the paino in, and theres a litter box right next to it now
And our cat Maui was using the litter box, and the other cats were checking out the piano
Suddenly Willow stomps on the lower note keys and Maui shoots out of the litter box leaving a fresh dook behind him
8( HE LITERALLY HAD IT SCARED OUT OF HIM. I got to clean it up thanks piano. Thiano.
so anyway, we should all draw ourselves riding a magical beast or creature
